Ford did indeed make a substantial investment in Cummins stock back in 1990 and had a Ford representative on the Cummins board. At the same time Ford began using Cummins engines in their medium duty trucks (not pick-ups, which used an International engine). Cummins bought its stock back from Ford in 1997 and the Ford guy resigned from the board. I can find no subsequent record of Ford involvement in Cummins and no current Cummins board member is from Ford or its subsidiaries. I looked at the Cummins SEC filings that are supposed to list any stockholder with a 5% or more stake in Cummins and Ford is not listed in among them. In fact, nobody owns more than 9% of Cummins and that owner is the Cummins Pension Plan, followed by the Cummins Employee Benefit Trust at 7.6%.
So Ford does NOT own Cummins.
