Welcome, Nan-- and Chance!

Nan, we were abour to embark on a discussion of strategies for teaching special needs students (both human and canine) and I was hoping that you might share a little bit of what has worked for you as a deaf person learning and performing in freestyle. I know it would be useful for those who teach classes, and educational for the rest of us. Maybe you could also comment on how those putting on freestyle events and competitions might better serve the needs of deaf people. Thanks, JudyS

Sheep Dog, is my hearing dog. As some of you know, herding dogs need
to be kept busy so, we decided to try freestyle. Chance's daddy, Acer (

CH. Vista's A Golden Finale CD, PT, NA, NAJ, CGC, HCT, CFFIV) was a
top CFF freestyle dog. Our first venture into freestyle was a Camp
Gone to the Dogs under the watchful eye of Bev Blanchard. We still
take classes from her at Camp. We took lessons from Terry Patton
(Diamond Jim's mom), Verne Foster and Susan Brogan.

We have participated in CFF level 1 and level 2 for several years -
no title yet. We were in the MDSA video festival last year - as part
of a drill team and as a independent team. We plan to enter WCFO
soon. Some of you may remember our demo from the Virginia Spring
Festival last year.

Along with freestyle, we also sheep herd, track, rally and other dog events.
