Hi All,
Interesting topic. I do not write anything on paper :-) I think you can only make a good choreography if you know where the judges will be (and the public), so if you make a choreography you will have to account for the judges and the public. So I try to choreograph in such a way that the more interesting moves will be clearly visible for the judges and public and the less exciting moves are further away from them (as we do need to fill 75% of the ring space).
I do not make maps but I visualise and do lots of practice runs without dog to see what would look best. And over the time that we train for the routine I'll get more ideas and chain them into the routine.
The last month I've been training and chaining with Wizz towards the music (before we only practiced on the moves) and in my mind there is a little movie playing what it could look like. More and more ideas come up and I try to teach them to Wizz and see what he thinks of it. I've positioned the routine in different areas from the ring and twisted and turned it round but for some reason it feels better coming from the left than from the right, even though for the judges it won't matter from which side we are coming.
My choreography simply comes when I interpret the music and think of moves which fit to the theme. Wizz listens to the music as well and sometimes comes up with a move. Like for our start he offered me some behaviours there as well that were quite interesting and we kept one of them as it really suits the theme and the music. It is nice as this way it becomes our routine as he really thinks about it as well and tries to be a good boy (he is a bit special :-) )
It's interesting to read how other people make a choreography.
Happy training,
Hetty
