I have performed pretty much all of my own maintenance - - not just
because of frugality (a part of it), but to have my rig worked on
means that I burn a ton of time as well as that terrible feeling I get
when having others do work on my rigs.
However, at times, I just don't feel like it! Know what I mean.
With my aging comes the back and joint pain, and crawling around on
gravel, my only choice here, is just no fun at all. Greasing the
chassis is a true headache. This is why I was asking about SpeedCo.
The reason for my post here is that I did have my chassis lubed a
couple of times, in a "while you're at it" type of situation.
WITHOUT exception, they ALWAYS miss a couple fittings. It's very easy
to spot them: they are dirty and no apparent grease was applied.
Specifically, these "mechanics" will ignore hard-to-reach fittings.
This is esp true on the u-joints. They will hit the ones they can
see but will ignore the fittings that are hidden or impossible to
grease up without being rotated. To rotate the fittings into view,
they have to start up the rig and move it back or forward.
This is the reason these U-joints will fail prematurely. Don't be
convinced your mechanic is greasing it all: climb underneath with a
mirror and pencil flashlight and take a look-see....
Just a suggestion, folks.
