What an interesting topic! As I'm starting to plan a routine for a
competition (probably only by video, to start). If ony I could make up my
mind as to which song to use ...
What I've done so far for the demos I've done is write down the lyrics in an
excel spread sheet so the lyrics fit the beats (i.e. 4 beats per cell) and
leave a blank line below where I write down what move we'll do to those
words (or instrumental part). Sometimes I'd make notes on the side as to
which way I'd be facing to start a move. Then I try it out without my dog
first, then with Jesse, change everything again ... Once I've decided on the
choreography I practice it over and over just listening to the music and
doing it in my head while using the spread sheet as a cheat sheet when I
forget or get 'lost'. I memorize key phrases in the lyrics or instruments
and their link to specific moves. I'll definitely try mapping it on paper,
thanks for the ideas.
